Team Strategy Meeting (With the Prof.)

Alright, so I have not yet scanned the gorgeous little diagram that Kyle drew in our "de-brief" meeting on the couches by my desk, but I did briefly (hah) transcribe various notes and potential important information from our discussion/strategy sess with Professor Jeff Schnabel. The notes are as follows...

Building Tech Strategy Meeting (Team Insul)

-Approaching insulation
-Think about the role of insulation within the structure, mainly in two parts:
#1: the reduction of heat transfer; temperature
#2: the acoustic condition that is applicable to insulation

-Within the notion of control, there's the building meeting the earth. Vertical surfaces have different strategies than horizontal surfaces.
-That is the over-simplified version. Much of the time it's the same material applied in different applications.
-R-Value...
-Thickness can change but the material doesn't...
-Insulation thicknesses can help the structure....
-Keep your eye on th'application* of these things
-Section/perspective (the so-called "persection") is the primary means for graphically representing this
-It is also important to know how the insulation fits in within the structure and various assemblies

Important things to keep in mind:

-CONTEXT, to show how the insulation works within an assembly
-A BRIEF discussion of r-values (and u-values) and how they're applied... we don't need a physics lesson, but rather an understanding. What is good and what is bad?
-SYSTEMS where insulation is incorporated into building materials

Some final thoughts:

-There're some products with build in insulating values that devoid a need for insulation
-Look for typical conditions
-Let's talk about insulation baby

*A little invention I like to call the English liaison.
**Dianimal, you are welcome.
